My Heart Will Go On, and on, and on, and on. . .through The Power of Love

so, every single time i walk outside--or almost single time, 9 out of 10 times--i hear the beloved voice of celine dion. who knew she was still so popular? she's been on the radio, on cd's in the car, the petit taxis, the stores, EVERYWHERE. it's kind of funny, but each time we hear it mel groans like she's being stabbed. i hope her ears don't start to bleed soon.

we DID hear some shania twain in acima today. acima is the equivalent of wal-mart neighborhood market. we've been there a couple of times since it's about a three minute walk from our apartment. i've got a bruise on my arm from walking back from acima with a case of diet cokes, three bags on one arm, and two on the other. i feel like a victim of domestic violence :)

we're trying to figure out how to convert celsius temp to farenheit temp. anybody know how to do that??? comment with the formula if you know it. i will be HIGHLY impressed. i have 5 education majors in here right now, and we can't remember it. it's been sooooo hot that we can't really sleep well at night. i took some tylenol pm (we've all taken to calling them "pretty blue pills") last night, and still woke up several times b/c i was hot, but i was groggy/drugged up and so i fell back asleep relatively quickly. i haven't slept with a sheet in about 5 days, which is a miracle since i've slept with the covers up around my neck every night since i was eight years old. i've decided that the inventor of the air conditioner is my favorite person. . . .my hero. i'm more a fan of him than of the man who came up with the idea that insulin could come from a source other than the human body.

class has been fine the past few days. we played a new game today called Brainstorm, and the kids loved it. it's kind of like Scattergories, but easier. everybody gets the same category, and they have to think of all of the things that they can. they get a point if no other team thought of what they said. it's good at getting them to think of all the different english words they know. i've only had four kids the past 2 days, and it's been lovely. they've all been calm and not too terribly silly. we've gotten a lot done.

we decided to give up going to the sahara desert b/c it's so hot, and we're going to Ceuta instead. it's a spanish town about a 4.5 hour train ride and an hour grand taxi ride away. ed's giving us a friday off to be able to go. he's given us the name of a house to stay in. it's kind of a bed and breakfast kind of place. we will be able to wear shorts and go to the beach and actually wear a bathing suit without getting stared at. it will be lovely. we hope that brian and aaron will be able to come with us. they are fun to play with. however, the best thing about going to Ceuta is that we will get our passport stamped with a Spanish stamp b/c Ceuta is considered part of Spain. AND we don't have to pay 120 euros to cross the strait of gibraltar. we'll go to spain--on the european continent--someday, but not this trip. Ceuta is perfectly okay with me. we'll be taking this trip on 21-23 july. it'll be a nice way to begin the wind-down before we come back home.
