we went with some of the teachers, who were here teaching for the summer, to marrakech this past weekend, and it was SO MUCH FUN! and who knew i was going to be so good at bartering? i gave melissa a few lessons, and she ended up with some cool pillow cases for her bed. i bought a beautiful table runner, some shoes, and other things. we were definitely tourist-y for the weekend, and took an hour-ish long horse and carriage tour around the city. we found some camels that vivi and leslie rode while on the carriage ride. on the way out the guardian "accidentally" let his vicious, horrible rottweiler loose, and it really almost jumped into our carriage. mel and leslie FREAKED OUT. . .it was hysterical and scary all at the same time. it was a BLAST. . .wild, but awesome! on the medina square were several interesting sights. . .most notably the snake charmers. we were looking at them, and before i knew it i had a python around my neck. the guy got me to kiss it for good luck. as you can see by my face in the pics i wasn't all that enthused about doing so :] we had a lot of fun with vivi and leslie. it was an amazing trip before starting language school on monday. our first lesson went alright, but i'm going to need to study a LOT to really learn the vocabulary and pronunciation. it's okay though. . .afterall, i can do all things through my father who strenghtens me--even learn arabic!

Ewwwwwwwww...to the snake! Glad you had a good time! I'm living viciously through you...except for the snake thing. :)

Hey! So sorry we didn't get to meet before you left. I know you had a million things to do before moving, though...been there before. Your place looks amazing! Makes me ready to get back on that side of the world...only 5 more months and I'll be there! Anyway, I'll be thinking about you each day as you work through language study. Yikes, it can be so fun and rewarding and yet so draining. My thoughts for you are hoping that you will be refreshed each morning, that you will have encounters each day that reinforce what you are learning, and that you will have perseverence as the learning gets tedious.
Call me officially jealous, for real. Keep the pics comin' and I'll stay that way. 8-)
Hey, if you need any help with your language stuff, lemme know. Surely I've gotten good at it by now...
You guys are on my mind,
